Held & Honored

Birth and Bereavement Doula Specialist

Holding space for birth and honoring unexpected loss.

Warm welcome,

My name is Emily Stewart, and I am a doula who has found a strong calling to help mothers through their pregnancy journey. All pregnancy and birth stories are unique, this is something I have come to appreciate through my own birth experiences.  I love to accompany mothers who need an extra pair of eyes, voice, and heart for whatever your story brings.

I have had 4 live births plus an adoption, one of those was a known neonatal death. Oliver, my eldest son, my peace-offering in this life.  Oliver means, "olive branch, a symbol of a peace offering".  I held him in my womb knowing he was labeled, "Incompatible with life".  I had months to take him with me, picking out a cemetery plot, burial gown, our memorial/maternity pictures... We picked a song together that would remind me of him.  The whole experience was heartbreaking. He happily kicked and punched me, bringing me back to reality when all I wanted to do was pretend everything was fine.

I want you to know there is joy during and after carrying a child in all circumstances.   There are options, many many MANY options.  I want to help you explore every option that feels right to you and your family.

For my mothers who had a loss and now find themselves ready for another pregnancy, it will be different.  How could it not?  Your fears and feelings are valid, let's make sure you can come up for air, take a deep breath, and dive in.

Remember, any age of a growing baby is socially worthy of grieving

Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves

Welcome all to Held & Honored, where death is not a taboo subject, but is considered a gift of time spent with our loved ones no matter what age.  I am here to encourage you to spend time and love your children who have passed or have limited time.  You are encouraged to have joy in a time of sorrow.  My job is to give you space and time, options, and memories with your baby.  I support birthing mothers so that they feel heard and enable you to concentrate on what's important.

Mother is to be held and honored.
